auto to transform an binary field into a normal text field with as/400 queries

I needed to create a field with left 12 and I did this:



FieldB= binary(fieldA,12)



But now I need to compare FieldB with fieldC, but fiedC is a normal text field.



Now I need to put fieldB again as a text field but only with the lehgth of 12.



Is it possible?
