The i5 doesn't need to use the HMC as a console, even when the HMC is
connected to the FSP to manage the i5. At this point, all you need to do is
go into the profile, and select the HMC as the console. Whenever you change
any attributes like that of a profile, you need to do a PWRDWNSYS on the
partition, and then reactivate the partition for the changes to the
configuration to take effect.

Subject: RE: Simplified HMC Setup?

When the i5 powers up, be patient, it will connect to the HMC in about
10
minutes, sometimes quicker, but not immediately. Once, you have the i5
you
will need to make a partition and associate all the resources of the i5
to
that partitions profile, set up your load source, alternative IPL
device,
and your console (which will be your HMC). Then you can activate your
profile. If i5/OS has been loaded onto the loadsource then it will boot
up.

I get through the point where the i5 is recognized by the HMC. It already
shows a partition with a default profile and it does boot up, even though
it isn't configured to use the HMC as a console and doesn't appear to have
all the resources allocated to it. I have no idea which load source and
IPL devices it's using. It appears I need to ditch the chapter on system
plans and just find where the directions are for partition
management/setup.

Thanks to you and Lucas for the pointers. Maybe I'm closer to getting the
console up and running then I believed.
