Hi Joe
You don't say whether you did a manual IPL and accessed the Service tools
on
the initial menu (the one that allows you to IPL your system) or just
started the system up and went into SST once the machine was running.
If you did the latter you will be provided with [fewer] options.
Yeah, I used SST, not DST. That's probably why I couldn't find a way to
remove the disk. Good thing that powering down, popping the drive and
replacing it, then IPLing and rebuilding it via SST, worked fine. It even
updated the serial number for the drive.

In SST it is under ...
1. Start a service tool
7. Hardware service manager
8. Device Concurrent Maintenance
Here you can either specify the location or resource ( DDxxx ) to Remove and then Install
Make sure you use the whole DDxxx name DD22 is not the same as DD022
Then you backup a few screens to 3. Work with disk units 3. Work with disk unit recovery 6. Rebuild disk unit data
Your Old drive should now be listed here. Pick it and follow the prompts
