My question was a can it be done as opposed to my own need to do it. I've
multiple boxes, an 800 at V5R2 with a DVD drive that can be used to get
stuff back to my 170 at V4R5. . It's a customer's end issue.

I master and ship proprietary databases to on CD and DVD to ISeries
customers each month. I don't create the AS400 save/Restore CDs or DVDs on
either box. That's done on a PC but the customer use is on ISeries boxes.

Some of customers who get the CDs have to get many multiple volume CDs and
then manually handle the multi-volume switching. The size of the databases
have grown over the years and that is an issue at some sites where there is
only someone available to stick 1 CD/DVD in and go home.

Having the customer buy a used DVD drive may be an easy solution. Giving
them one may be an easier solution depending on the price.
