FWiW, the rules for *USRPRF object naming match effectively, the TYPE(*SNAME) for the PARM command; i.e. /Simple Name/ rules, but with a 10-byte limit -- see CPD0133. Other objects restricted to the library QSYS [i.e. those which reside only in the machine context] do not necessarily have the same naming restrictions as *USRPRF. For example:

> crtusrprf "DumbIdea"
Value '"DumbIdea"' for parameter USRPRF not allowed.
Error found on CRTUSRPRF command.
> crtautl "DumbIdea"
Authorization list "DumbIdea" created.
> crtusrprf 'DUMB.IDEA'
Value 'DUMB.IDEA ' for parameter USRPRF not allowed
Error found on CRTUSRPRF command.
> crtlib dumb.idea
Library DUMB.IDEA created.
