I don't know if BRMS has something built in. We have it installed but
have never used it.

In some ways you might be in luck. BRMS shops generally use different
volume id's on each tape. Unlike some shops that label all tapes IBMIRD
or DEKKO or MON, TUE, WED... This will allow you to use the command
PRTERRLOG TYPE(*VOLSTAT) VOLTYPE(3590) VOLSTAT(*KEEP)

Once you figure that out, then you can change the last parameter to *DLT
and reset the statistics on a nightly basis. Put this command on your job
scheduler for when you know that the backups are good and done. Or wrap
it in a CL to email you the resultant spool file like we do. If you do
the CL thing you might want to put a MONMSG in there for the days someone
holds the backup and PRTERRLOG MSGWs because there are no records and they
didn't hold the tape report.

Then, you compare this with the capabilities of the tape.
