Only if you use PASE. I don't currently use it and in fact didn't even have
it installed until recently. Anything that requires the use of PASE will
need to be balanced against the increased security risk.

There is some saving grace in that buffer overrun exploits require intimate
knowledge of both the operating system and the underlying machine code, and
since PASE is not an Intel environment there are a lot less script kiddies
out there, but that's more security by obscurity than anything else, and
eventually that will bite you in the butt.


There are lots of things that can compromise the security of my machine, but
i5/OS ain't one of them - it's people making decisions that degrade the
security of their infrastructure. My favorite is people running single
signon and then making their primary security machine a Windows box. Yes,
you can secure the heck out of your Windows machine, but that's one heck of
a step backward in security, in my opinion.

Me, I would try to avoid sticking things onto a production machine that let
the script kiddies hack in, and it seems that just about everything in PASE
falls into that category.
