Thanks. As for everything else, I don't have the foggiest idea. The CIO is a
Wintel bigot and wanted the web interface built that way.

I'm going to take all of these suggestions and dump them in his lap. When he
realizes the error of his ways, we'll sit down and talk about the right way.

Besides other good advice you've already received also look into connection
pooling, *FIRSTIO vs *ALLIO and perhaps most importantly extended dynamic
support (aka SQL packages).

BTW, why are you convinced it's not a JVM startup or some other web server
type initialization cost versus DB2?
