I have 3 APCs 1100, and an Eaton Powerware 1500. They all handle my stuff great. I have the older 150 and the 170 and about 5 pcs that are always on for support issues. When the batteries die I go to my local wholesale battery place and I replaced the APC ones for about $28 per ups. I don't buy batteries from the dealers anymore.

What happens to me a lot is the stupid storm that comes in the middle of the night and shuts off the power. When I hear the UPS alarms going off, I (and my son) get up and start shutting everything down. It really sucks when you have 7 machines to shut down at 2:00 am. :)

I recently got a 3-phase pPwerware UPS that's 30KVA from a client that replaced theirs with a newer and bigger one. I haven't got it set up yet. I will probably set it up to backup certain systems in my house and will use a secondary circuit box to do so. Just another big project to start on.

Jim--

When the battery dies, check out http://www.RefurbUPS.com. Their
batteries sell cheaper than APCs by a whole bunch!

Bradley--

Check them out now-- it appears they have a "used UPS lot." Also,
APC has a used UPS lot as well...

When the battery in my older APC Smart UPS 1400 died I more or less
ignored for so long that I had to work hard to remove the leaky,
deposit-encrusted battery from the UPS. Since it was out of warranty
anyway, I bought a new battery from Refurb. It's been working fine-
the battery was a 1-for-1 replacement with the original.
