1.) We develop and serve notes applications from the iSeries.
2.) No, the DB2 database format does not affect our future Lotus
Notes/Domino development plans. We've been developing with Notes and
Domino for years without the NSFDB2 format and can continue to do so
well into the future. It would have been a nice thing, however all
indications I was seeing was that DB2 was simply a container for the
mail databases instead of using NSF files. Not a big leap in terms of
progress since either way the Domino Database storage is on the iSeries.
3.) We already made the platform shift several years ago. We run our
primary Domino server on Windows because of better performance and use
the iSeries Domino Server for customer development. Because of Java,
customers can easily run their Domino Server on Windows or Linux and
still do native iSeries application integration.
More interesting to me is the new RCP based Notes Client. IBM seems to
be moving towards RCP for all their application interfaces.

subject: NFSDB2 support on i5/OS
As I'm sure everyone knows, in the Notes 8.0 announcement IBM chose not
to release the long anticipated support for Notes databases in DB2 on
i5/OS. I had heard that the support even made it into beta, but as of
now, it sound like there are no plans for a production release.
There was a VERY strong negative reaction to the announcement in Europe.
I haven't seen as much chatter about it in North America, but I may not
be looking in the right places.
COMMON is working on a formal response to IBM, but I was wondering if
anyone here has some thoughts. Specifically:
1. Are you serving Notes from i5/OS?
2. Did you have future plans based on the availability of NFSDB2 on
i5/OS?
3. Will the absence of the support mandate that you shift to a different
Notes server platform?
Cheers,
Randy
