I long ago suggested using FTPAPI, but my client has already invested a lot of time and effort in their own home-grown process that uses scripts, and they are not willing to change it at this point. We solved the current problem by recreating the source physical file with longer record length.

Consider ditching the scripts and using Scott Klement's FTIAPI.

You have better control and Error handling is much improved over parsing the outfile yourself, not to
mention using FTPAPI is a lot easier than writing the scripts + error parsing.

We are having problems with FTP scripts when the length of
the command is longer than 80 characters, and I haven't yet
found any documentation on limitiations for batch FTP. Is
there a way to continue an FTP command onto another line?
