Thanks Scott...I'll check out your articles. I was trying to do it
with C (an example) - RPG will be much easier for me. My goal is to
try and execute a command on a PC, and if the command doesn't exist,
pass back an error. RUNRMTCMD gives me the info I need, but I'd rather
not parse a spooled file if I don't have to.

You didn't specify which programming language... I've written two
articles that demonstrated the rexec() API in ILE RPG. They are
available at the following links (you need a Pro or ProVIP membership
with SystemiNetwork.com):

Run Remote Commands with RExec
http://www.systeminetwork.com/article.cfm?id=18971

Rexec API by IP Address
http://www.systeminetwork.com/article.cfm?id=50809

The following are links to the source code downloads for the articles.
They demonstrate the API, and (if I'm not mistaken) you can download
this code even if you don't have a System iNetwork membership:

http://www.iseriesnetwork.com/noderesources/code/clubtechcode/RexecDemo.zip
http://www.pentontech.com/IBMContent/Documents/article/50809_18_RexecRev.zip

If you'd like to discuss this further, let's move over to RPG400-L (or
C400-L if that's more appropriate).
