Jon,

If the reason you ask the question is important beyond the answer, why
trust the vagaries of how I work, versus how my customers work, versus
how another customer works.

Without knowing the work involved I would implement both options. Why
risk loosing me on a trial as my answer, like most will be "It depends
on the timing".

I've been in the software package business since I wrote the 1st
spreadsheet program for the System 3X world. Paracalc sold almost 5000
copies back in the early 80s. I've done lots of stuff since, some public
but most for other software vendors.

I've been a financial, business, software and operations consultant
since 1978 and I have found that successful things happen most often not
because you do or have good things but because you eliminate the
barriers to try and used whatever it is being used or implemented.

Please excuse the self aggrandizing of the foregoing but I was trying to
give some long term experience support to the answer and reason for my
answer to your question.

Regards

I am soliciting opinions from the members of this list in respect to
the
following somewhat hypothetical scenario. In order to reduce list
clutter,
please email replies to me directly.

Suppose that a new System i web interface were to become available
that
tapped into the WebFacing API and could therefore be used to provide a
relatively simple mechanism for the web enablement of existing RPG and
COBOL
applications.

Would you be more likely to give such software a trial if:

a) You could only run (say) three concurrent "5250" sessions, but
there was
no time limit on the trial period

OR

b) have unlimited use of the full product but only for a limited
period of
(say) 90 days.
