We have 2 of these for a couple of older systems. It's a small single
ISA slot diskless PC with a twinax emulator card. It boots linux with a
GUI to run the emulator, configuration or Netscape browser.
Configuration can also be performed remotely via a built in web server.
The remote ICON emulator is unique in that more one client can connect
to the same session at the same time. The session remains active even
when nobody is connected. This is well suited for the console in
restricted state. You can start a long running command like RCLSTG and
then disconnect.
In a little over a year, both units have died. Visara has replaced
each, however the second replacement was DOA and last I heard, we are
still waiting for another. Maybe we just got some lemons.
