We are using views heavily:
In this way we can move lots of program logic into database logic and to
reduce source code.
A SQL view is much more powerful than a DDS described logical file.
You can embedd everything that is possible with a SELECT into a view, except
order by.
It is also possible to built views over views.
Because a view has no access path, access path maintenance is always
rebuilt. That means you can have thousands of views over the same phyiscal
file or SQL table, without any performance decrease.
A view can be used with native I/O (as long as no predefined sequence is
necessary) and embedded SQL. It can be used from each SQL interface (such as
ODBC, JDBC) and it even can be used with Query/400.
