I've got a routine that does a full system save and then reboots the machine
so that any PTF's that were installed during the week get applied. The
operator just needs to sign on to the console and type WEEKLY and press the
enter key.

BRMS since V5R4 can completely automate this for you.

Before V5R4, a console monitor has to be used (which has be manually
started each IPL).

Without BRMS, you'll need to start the backup manually, but a save 21
can be completely automated (read Jerrys reply and IBMs Backup &
Recovery Guide).
