You would also have a basic (free) option of sending SMS message via the
email gateways provided by some of the cellular carriers. You're probably
looking for more function than that, though...

Hi Eduard

There are numerous packages out there that allow you to add SMS capability
to your iSeries. The July 2007 issue of System I News had a product
roundup
covering this. The following products were all listed there:

absMessage (www.seasoft.com)
AOS Message Manager, AOS Pager Manager (www.syan.com)
A.S. Phone Home (www.redoc.com)
AutoConsole, AutoPager (www.macro4.com)
Halcyon Monitor Suite, Operations Center, Systems Operation
Suite
(www.halcyonsoftware.com)
ICOM/400 (www.pbsnow.com)
iConga (www.atgi.org)
MessengerConsole, MessengerPlus (www.bytware.com)
QMessage Monitor (www.ccsltd.com)
Robot/ALERT, Robot/CONSOLE (www.helpsystems.com)
VISUAL Message Center (www.tango04.com)

I installed the Help/Systems Robot/ALERT and Robot/CONSOLE combination when
I worked for Harley-Davidson Europe a number of years ago and was very
impressed with it.

Hope it helps

Jonathan

Subject: SMS and the iSeries.

Dear all,

We would like to be able to receive and send SMS's with/from the iSeries.
We can imagine that one of the way's to do so is connecting an GSM modem
(or
other types of GSM hardware) to the serial port and communicating with it.
But...... Serial port interfacing on the iSeries (in a long past has done
that on other types of computers (interesting pieces of assembler
programming with interrupts))??!!
Never done things like that on iSeries and as a result have no idea about
what to use...
Does anyone has an idea?? Can help to give us some idea ??

Regards,
Eduard Sluis.
