Re: DBCS system reload-Language group 2984 or 2924

We are in a quandry.

We are not clear about which primary language group to load to enable DBCS on our i5: 2984 (DBCS English) or 2984 (DBCS English). In any event we will load secondary languages Simplified Chinese and Japanese Kanji.

The most recent support information from the IBM labs is that SBCS English 2924 should be loaded as the primary language. As of V5R2 the QIGC bit setting was permanently enabled making the environment aware of DBCS languages and capable of handling them.

Unfortunately this new direction does not sufficiently address the actual usage experience.

In so far as IBM Globalization is concerned it has been our experience that the extended support for specific web-based elements required a primary DBCS 2984 language for certain specific aspects to function properly.

The evidence which points in the other direction is not compelling enough to adjust the current posture to not load DBCS English as the primary language. Nor is it apparent that loading DBCS English as the primary language in anyway impairs the operational capability of the system.

Therefore we are thinking we will load out the system with 2984 (DBCS English) as the primary language.

Since we have purposely left off SBCS English as a secondary language we
will need to certify that all 3rd party software packages function properly in a DBCS English environment.

Anyone have specific experience with this issue?
