Technically while the Rackcfg or WRKDSKSTS reports them as 6718s...they
are 4318's when placed in a 270, 8xx or 5xx. The difference is the
mounting HW. 67xx Hw fits in 170s 720s etc, which do not support V5R4.
Like wise on the tape.. IBM calls it a 4586 when in a 270. Again the
Rackcfg or WRKDEVD will show it as a 6386, but it's wrong...
So your HW is Supported

Subject: Unsupported devices on V5R4
I have a 270 currently on V5R3 that I'd like to bring up to V5R4.
According to IBM (its website) it has two unsupported device types:
- 6x 6718 17GB disks
- 1x 6386 50GB quarter inch tape drive
Despite this, some people on this list reportedly have V5R4 running
successfully on type 6718 disks.
Would anybody have any good or bad experiences with the 6386 tape drive
on V5R4? Care to share?
Thanks,
Moe
