Nick,
By "strip the spreadsheet out", do you mean drag it to the IFS through a file
share?
By the way, are you a MAPICS shop? We are.

We use Kemetech's CVTDBFXLS and CVTXLSDBF here quite extensively, for many
years. Very easy to use and it works great.

I heartily recommed them. There support has been great in the past. I
haven't had to actually call them for a couple of years now, though.:-)

We still to get orders from one of our customers via Outlook email. Our
Customer Service person strips the spreadsheet out, and the 400 took over
from there, using Kemetech's product plus some custom code, to get into
our system.

Thanx,

Nick

Re: Automate upload of Excel data

There's a product from Kemetech systems called CVTXLSDBF that will
handle the conversion from XLS to DB2 database file. I am currently
trying it out for a similar situation and it seems like it will handle
the XLS without any problems.

I am proposing that the user (vendor) ftp the file to me which will be
stored on a Windows FTP server in the DMZ, outside our Firewall. I
will then FTP it from there to the i5 into the IFS, where I will run
CVTXLSDBF to convert it into a database file.

Note: It may also be possible to use the IBM command CPYFRMIMPF if I
can get them to send it to me in a CSV format.

I believe the steps listed above should take care of items 1 and 2
that you listed. As for 3 and 4, I might suggest that you have the
provider add the needed column. Otherwise, I would just duplicate the
data using SQL into another file with the column added once it's on
the i5.

Disclosure: I am in no way employed by or representative of Kemetech
systems.
