We have one of those rechargeable flashlights plugged into the wall in our
machine room. Small debate on whether or not to leave it to automatically
turn on when power goes out. One school of thought is that auto on is a
backup emergency light and a "yo dude, here's the flashlight". Other
school of thought (based on some experience) is that the flashlight can
discharge before someone gets there. Then you have no flashlight.

Other problem with a flashlight is when someone (me) leaves it under the
floor to track down cables and forgets about it. It's a little tacky to
string on a garbage can lid like the rest-room keys in the movie
"Kindergarten Cop".
