can an as400 expose all its programs as web services?
No. But a System i can.

can the as400 database be integrated with sql server to the extent a native
.net program can access it as just another sql server database?
No. But a System i can.

yes it can, using host integration services.
It can also be done using 3rd party software that is NOT from MS. It can be
done with the ingenuity of MANY people on this list. It can be done without
a System p.

No doubt, other non IBM software could extend the reach of our system even
more.
Which one? The AS/400, or the System i? Why are you living in the past, too?

The only thing holding back the as400 is IBM refusing to allow i5/OS to run on
market priced p5 hardware.
Complete crap. Sing a new song, Steve. The current i5/OS issue is twofold.
1) Everyone calls it an AS/400, so no one thinks it is modern - therefore no
one will buy one. Period. No matter what price.
2) Applications, applications, applications. Get more on the platform, and
the price is not an issue.
