Hi,
Telnet emulation requires always maintaining a TCP/IP socket connection between
host & clent. If interupted, is same as turning power off at a terminal.
What you require is a connection-less solution to overcome the issues outlined,
one not requiring any recovery processing. Connection-less terminal access is
characterised, as the name suggests, by a connection only being required when
you interact with the host. A connection-less solution even allows you to lose
connectivity while in middle of host interaction and continue the transaction
when connectivity resumes, as in a wireless network.
The axes solution is connection-less (
http://www.axeslive.com/). Uses HTTP not
Telnet protocol. You can try this out live at the web site. One additional
feature/advantage available with axes is session parking. Session parking
enables disconnect and reconnect to reestablish sessions at the point of
suspension, from the same or any other device. This means you could be in order
entry, turn off device and go to another or use same device and reconnect to
complete.
Usual vendor disclaimer applies.
Regards,
Bob

| Subject: Terminal emulation over spotty network connection...
|
|
| Hello all,
|
| I've searched for information about this and I haven't come
| up with much.
|
| I have a situation where user are roaming with tablet PCs and
| a WiFi connection.
|
| We are using iSeries Access green screen emulation.
|
| When the users are moving around, they will occasionally lose
| the network connection when they go from one WiFi zone to another.
|
| How can I set up the emulation sessions so that they don't drop?
|
| I know about QDEVRCYACN and QDSCJOBITV. But tweaking them
| still seems to present an unacceptable amount of recovery
| actions by the end users.
|
|
| I would like there to be NO recovery actions by the users.
|
| (I might be OK if the connection went down while they were
| system inhibited, but if the session is just sitting there...)
|
| Thanks in advance.
