Booth, I would hesitate to use the term inferior.... I think the point is that
Midrange.Com is a product of Open Source technologies, optimized for Linux.
Using System i just to host linux apps seems a bit overkill. It's unlikely
that some(any?) of the products that David uses to run the lists/services at
Midrange.com are readily available as native System i applications, and while
they COULD be ported to run in PASE or native, this would be a maintenance
nightmare. Each new release of these open source packages would need to be
re-ported..... If he just uses the hardware to run linux workloads, then how
is that better than what he uses now?

Well, I agree with all of these sentiments. Next question: Why is the
System i inferior? What can be done to make it at least an equal? Some
of the issue, I am sure, is implementation, and having a few boxes in
production, in the real World environment should allow us to bring the
System i up to World standards for Internet usage.

But then, I am a NASCAR fan, and I believe that the car companies have
learned a lot from their racing ventures.

You wouldn't use a hammer to dig a whole would you?

Would the heavy hitters on this list please make the case with the right

people to get David to Rochester for a week or so to get a new box

I agree with Scott Klement's response and also add that "if it's not
broke, don't fix it".
