Hello,

Would the heavy hitters on this list please make the case with the right people to get David to Rochester for a week or so to get a new box properly configured, and send him home with it? Please?

This is an interesting idea, however, I wonder if it really makes sense? Are you suggesting that he runs a Linux LPAR, and runs MailMan, Mhonarc, htdig, SpamAssassin, etc on that?

If so, what's the real benefit over running Linux on a PC? It'd be more expensive. Even if IBM donates an i515, he'd still have to pay for maintenance. What's the advantage?

Surely you don't want to run a high-volume mailing list on the godawful i5/OS SMTP server? You'd need something better, which would either mean running Linux or maybe Domino. Again, now you have more costs with Domino, and you're probably changing all of the software for the whole site.

I certainly agree that this site is important to our community, and that it's worthy of a donation from IBM, but for what the site does, I don't really think i5/OS is the right tool for the job.
