I'm not sure about S/34 but I know A specs were used on S/36 ($SFGR) specs
generated by S/36 SDA.

likely DDS was something that evolved from RPG. Where instead of
having the A specs in the RPG code, the forgotten S/38 designer moved
them where they worked better, into an externally described file.
