Long time ago when I was in an IBM class, I asked the
instructor how come the letters in column 6 sometimes made
sense (in English) and sometimes did not.

I was told that IBM sells products in all human languages,
not just English, in all nations, not just North America, so
we should not expect all code-letters to make sense in
English.

David may shoot me since this is kinda not on topic, but a
student in one of
my wifes classes asked why for files (PF/LF/DSPF/PRTF)
the "A' was used in
column 6?

Told them neither of us knew (never thought about it) but
I'd find
out.......
