Please re-read what I said Steve. Like others stated it is new sales AND
existing maint.

I picked up at COMMON from the mouth of Mark Shearer (and I paraphrase) "The
combination of support and sales of System i5 hardware accounts for 1/2 of
IBM's hardware monies". ..."
lets look at this another way ... 7 yrs ago there were a lot of as400
shops, paying ( roughly ) just as much hardware and software maint as
they are now. If maintenance is so profitable to IBM, why were
company profits so low back then?
here is a fact that indicates the likely profits from each p5 IBM sells.
------------------------------------
db2 pricing on the p5
db2 express runs on the max 2 processors and 4GB of memory. db2
express can be had on a per user pricing of $624 + $124 per user.
Unlimited users is $4874 per processor.
the workgroup server edition of db2 is $1211 + $311 per user or
unlimited users for $9375 per processor.
-------------------------------------
I hope you all are right but I doubt it. Just a guess, I think the
system is closer to being shutdown than we are willing to admit.
