Tell him to talk to his contacts at IBM:-) I would imagine that was a
weighed sentence made by the IBM execs and it wasn't a mistake. It drew an
applause from the crowd. "No addtl charge" makes sense for a first version
of the product in my mind.

I need more details on that. I have a rep from ibi here today peddling
their product and he fervently denies that their product is going to be
given away free in any way, shape or form. You will be cutting a check to
get it. The only deal was that IBM will be selling it directly. Now, I can
understand a rep not being antsy in providing information about something
they are going to give away if he is trying to convince me to write a check
today. After all, a $100 date is not going to tell you about the freebie at
the bar on the corner. But this guy is pretty adamant and recently covered
the bar for my LUG meeting.

I am here also and can share some tidbits I have been taking note of on
the
blackberry
There is a GUI/Browser Query400 replacement that is enroute and will be
available later this year. The cool part of the announcement is that it
will be no charge for existing "entitled" customers of Query400.
They are going to be(or already have, kinda unclear on this one) releasing
a
version of the System i5 without DB2 and some other features in an effort
to
better offer solutions for customers that are using the iSeries in
different
ways (I think Domino was the example Mark S mentioned).
MySQL integration was talked about. I am not quite sure I understand how
this will be implemented as they are talking about how MySQL will be
installed on the i5 but will use the DB2 engine behind the scenes???
Sounds
risky to me because that might mean the iSeries will get all MySQL
updates/releases/versions much slower because IBM will need to make their
mods before it can be placed on the platform. Who knows though, because
it
sounds like a good partnership is forming (similar to Zend) and it may
turn
out to be quite a good thing.
A lot being said about how open the system i5 is (PHP/MySQL/Windows/Linux)
and I am starting to see that as a good thing so the machine can become
more
popular and thus less expensive, but am sad to hear nothing about
advancements for native development (i.e. RPG and corresponding dev
tools).

Jerry,
How about providing an update on the events, info, etc., for those of us
