You stated the point exactly. One of the biggest things I hate about PST
conferences is you can't get back without taking a red eye....so either way
you lose a whole day to travel.
This is one of the reasons I've asked for years that COMMON keep their
conferences East of the Mississippi (with the exception of San Antonio) and
south of the mason Dixon line... Not for political purposes, for logistical
and pricing purposes....

And you should probably plan on leaving a west coast conference in the AM
anyway. Leaving late in the afternoon means that you don't get back until
early AM - when many non hub airports are already closed.
