I think the integrated db2 is becoming a problem for us. With Java
and PHP running in PASE, shops need the flexibility of having DB2 run
native in PASE and having the legacy RPG apps thunk into PASE for
their database access. If we could run any database on the system
our apps would be a lot more portable than they are now, with just as
much functionality. Non i5 IBM might also be more amenable to our
system if we were running the same db2 as AIX does.

The strength of i5/OS is its object and encapsulation model. ( even
ILE is a positive compared to what Linux as to offer ( guessing )).
We dont need embedded DB2 and SLS to get external program calls,
SAVLIB, output queues, commands, CL, system APIs and ILE procedure
calls.
