The V5R2 link had this to say:
IBM continues to support SPD I/O on 6xx/Sxx/7xx/820/830/840 models, but
Models 810, 825, 870 and 890 do not support SPD I/O.
The V5R3 link kissed SPD good bye altogether.

But you really ought to read it yourself for the details. I think some
SPD died with V5R2 regardless of 7xx or 8xx.
