Yes, I am sure that I am connected to the iSeries. I go through a VPN and
then start an emulation session. I terminate that session and I then try to
use the iSeries connection - no luck. Maybe my technique is at fault and I
certainly would appreciate being corrected. Anything for progress.

Are you sure you are even connected to the iSeries in question?

From iNav right-click on the connection and choose Diagnostics->Verify 
Connection and see if that checks out. You can also open a WinDoze command 
prompt and key "cwbping hostname" where hostname is the IP address or DNS 
name of the iSeries.
