I had a chat with our BP on Friday, and he indicated that the earliest
IBM is shipping v7.0 on media is March 16th.

Yeah Pete - as a partner I just go to the software access catalog and
skip all this nonsense.

It seemed to me that the update to the standard WDSC - like from v5
to v6 and i hope to v7 was and is done by ordering a refresh from
your business partner of 5722-WDS - normal way to order this kind of
thing. Guess we will need to "watch this spot" - maybe Violaine or
one of the others knows.

As to an update to AE - probably has to be done through PPA, as it is
not orderable as a licensed product.

Just my guesses.

Vern,

I don't think you are beating a dead horse here. It IS confusing.
Following your link, I clicked on the "Support Downloads" option, which
is logical because I want to download the latest WDSc (right?). Well,
interestingly enough, upgrading to V 7.0 can only be done through PPA
online. But an "all-inclusive update" to 6.0 is available without
going
to PPA.

I am guessing that this is an "upgrade" vs "update" issue. Upgrades, I
guess, go through PPA online . Updates can be gotten through the
updater or thorough a direct download.

In any case, as a business partner with a "Software Access Catalog"
account, I can download from there. But what if I didn't have that
account? I guess I would have to sign up for PPA (it's free, IIRC)
and
then get the upgrade there. Things are a little "fuzzy" still.

I've
never got an update for WDSC through PPA - I either used the updater
in WDSC or downloaded through www.ibm.com/software/ad/wdt400 (or
whatever that gets redirected to). This was true before Rational.

I don't know what is meant by the test environment - except what
comes with WDSC - the updater would bring it down if need be. Again,
PPA never entered the equation for me.

Also, the announcement to which you referred was for HATS - nothing
to do directly with WDSC, except that the latest version installs
as a plugin.

So I'm curious - do you have the advanced edition of WDSC? Then it
is
probably a different kettle of fish. Folks on the iSeries that have
the 5722-WDS licensed product do not need PPA to update the standard
edition - and probably should not do so.

This horse is almost dead - sorry to keep riding it.
