When I was in college, long before the PC revolution, rumor had it that the
largest printer that IBM made would open automatically when the paper ran
out. It was also rumored that a certain operator would sleep on top of the
printer and when the paper ran out, he would awaken rather abruptly. But I
never met the guy, just heard this from people who claimed to know people
who knew him.

IIRC we had a printer on a Sys/3 that when it ran out of forms the lid
would
auto open. We burned that printer up a few times from "one" of us leaving
coffee/coke on top of it.......and it ran out of paper....

vent the heat.

Anyway, when told that he shouldn't put his cup there, he went to remove
it, but instead knocked it over thus spilling the coffee into the 370.
He was given five [5] minutes to pack his things and get the hell out of
the building. This was confirmed by both our local company's treasurer,
who was there at the time, and a short article in the WSJ.

So, take care, Rob. We would sorely miss your worldly and valuable

I feel the pain, it took me almost 2 months of sending every link I could
find to our BP to finally get it....of course then all h**l broke loose and
the DVD/CD's are still sitting on my desk (though I did finally open the
pkg
last week) waiting to be installed....

Apparently this is what the others are seeing
http://www-306.ibm.com/software/awdtools/wdt400/wdt400-pricing.html

I found that at:
http://www-306.ibm.com/software/awdtools/wdt400/
But at this same url, if you click on the parent product below you will be
taken to
http://www-306.ibm.com/software/awdtools/wds400/
Note: One url says wdS the other says wdT.
But, in the parent product, look under included products. What do you see
right above the COBOL and the RPG compiler? That's right, WDSC is
included.

Apparently you cannot even purchase the RPG compiler separately anymore.
But if you want to purchase WDSC without buying the compilers you can. And
apparently the only ones who might do that would be consultants without
their own iSeries.

Did notice that the RPG link breaks down enhancements by release for at
least the last couple of releases. Others on the RPG list have
contributed a more complete list (covering some of the older releases).

Three things:
1 - M/36. It's a special environment that is different than STRS36. In
M/36 you have no access to OS/400 at all. More like a really early
version of lpar. This died some releases back. I ?think? after V4R5,
2 - Support for the regular S/36 environment - STRS36 or STRS36PRC. No
foreseeable plans to drop this.
3 - Support to compile RPG36 programs. IBM was planning on dropping this
but read this statement:
RPG and COBOL System/36? and System/38? compatible compilers, July 2006
IBM plans to continue to ship and support the following S/36 and S/38
compiler options as part of WebSphere Development Studio for iSeries in
the release after V5R4. IBM is withdrawing the previous planning statement
that said V5R4 will be the final release to include these compilers in the
Software Maintenance or Software Subscription contract.

5722-WDS Option 32 - System/36 Compatible RPG II
5722-WDS Option 33 - System/38 Compatible RPG III
5722-WDS Option 42 - System/36 Compatible COBOL
5722-WDS Option 43 - System/38 Compatible COBOL
