If you can OPNQRYF it, you can use a UDF on it. It doesn't matter if the files were created with DDS or DDL (for this item). Creating a view, instead of a logical, with that UDF built in would be nice though. It would make your OPNQRYF prettier. What else could you have meant by "my database isn't SQL"? Then your UDF could call the API that will do what you want. Put a source file, to be ran with RUNSQLSTM or some such animal, into your installation script. In that source file put CREATE FUNCTION ... Rob Berendt
