What about using an exit point?? If they don't want you to change their
program they should give you a way around it to allow the program to
call something else... Now, as for ME - I don't even know where to look
to find out if the IS an exit point in the program you are changing...

Yep, but the problem is that this is exactly what I have done and it is
not working.

i.e. the new program is in a library before QSYS in the library list but
it is the original in QSYS that is being called.
