Jonathan,

I haven't read the book but building a mail merge document that uses System i data and Word is fairly easy. If you are using iSeries Access you should have the ODBC driver installed. You can use that as a datasource to query the System i data and return it to your merge document. This would not be unique to the System i. Any database that has an ODBC driver can be used in a merge document.

There are plenty of resources on the web that can tell you how to build a merge document with ODBC. Unless you are trying to do something more than that, using VB scripting (macros) or something more sophisticated, it is a pretty straightforward solution.

Hi List

Has anybody got or read the book "Microsoft Word and the iSeries" by G.
Wayne Hawks?

I have a customer who would like to have their AS400 (and I use the name
generally) data incorporated into Word documents. At a price of $395 (or
£395 in the UK) I want to be sure that I can achieve what they want using
the book for guidance before spending that much money.

Are there other alternatives available for getting data into Word? Ideally
what they would like is to be able to create a template in Word and generate
a report using the template.

Thanks

Jonathan
