Sorry, I'm afraid that I used the wrong expression :-( When I said
"short
of using an exit point" I didn't mean "short of an effective
solution". As
far as I knew, it is the only possible way to do it but, when I
proposed
it to the guys here, I found a lot of blank stares and the remark of
"...sounds complicated. Who is going to maintain it?"
Writing your own exits can be quite complicated - which is why most shops opt to let someone else, write, test and debug exit programs for them. In most cases it's cheaper than figuring it out and implementing it on your own machines.
