Thanks for the info. -----Original Message----- From: ALopez@xxxxxxxxxx To: midrange-l@xxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Wed, 10 Jan 2007 11:25 AM Subject: Re: SEQUEL Authority
Thanks Al, what did you mean by enhanced access?
Management doesn't mind users being able to pull data from BOMs, router files, etc. They start to get worried when the information concerns sales figures. They get paranoid when it involves costs and gross margins. For users writing views we've had to lump access into three similar categories, so I'm talking about an increased list of files to which the user has *USE rights. Some users have access to basic files, others to those basic files plus sales history, the highest have the basic files, sales history and gross margin. It ends up meaning that a user has at most three group profiles, with most having just one, to give them access to the data files. Whether they access them by Query, SEQUEL, ODBC, etc. is irrelevant because no one can change the data without going through a program adopting authority and no one can access data they haven't been cleared to receive. Good luck on your project. Getting authorities can be a total pain in the rear even when you start with a good system. Doing it in an environment where files are *CHANGE for PUBLIC, or worse, owned by the users, must be a nightmare....
