Is there a way to duplicate this process on the iSeries?

Can a COBOL program interface with the system so that it
can "segment" the print file output?

Would it be as simple as closing and re-opening the print
output file? What is the best way to handle this?

You can make the print file available before the program is finished by
using the OVRPRTF command, and specify SCHEDULE(*IMMEDIATE). This will
allow the print spooler to send data to the printer before the program
closes the print file. You could also segment the print file by closing
and reopening the printer file. The combination of these would seem
redundant, since the closing and reopening the printer file will make the
data available to the printer.
