You are reading too much into my pain. For an enterprise server it should come loaded with everything it needs to administer it (emphasis on needs). And no I don't want to debate what needs are as I am sure there are many different levels of need out there. Therefore you think that TCP should not be 5722TC1 but should be part of 5722SS1 also? And, not an option of 5722SS1, but part of *BASE? Because TCP "is required to administer something on the iSeries" in the same sense. Let's face it, Java is a hog. If you have some shop that is only using an i5 as a glorified S/36, requiring them to load Java as part of the base may be a waste. I think is it unreasonable to require Java to be installed if you aren't running Java applications on your machine. If Java is required to administer something on the iSeries then I believe is should come with the base install of the OS. The machine is at V5R2. Why is it bad that he needs to have a reasonably current version of Java installed? The latest version for V5R3 is option 7. (JDK 1.5) Which OS version is he running? Hi all, I know this question has been asked in the past for previous OS releases and I am curious as to if it has changed at all in more recent versions. Is the only way to administer Digital Certificates still through DCM (i.e. *ADMIN HTTP server) using the browser? Just had a customer today needing to setup their default certificate store (i.e. *SYSTEM) and it turns out the necessary components for *ADMIN HTTP server weren't installed. So now he has to go through the motions of loading all that on his machine. Not the biggest deal in the world, but definitely a bummer that IBM requires 5722JV1 option 6 to be installed just to work with Digital Certificates. Even if I could only do it through iSeries Navigator that would be better (in some cases).
