I did a quick test against a VRM440 system I have here and it worked fine to retrieve the name of a UID to which*PUBLIC has *EXCLUDE authority and the profile under which I ran the test had no specific authority to the UID profile.
Thanks, Simon. Perhaps if I'd tried getpwuid() on the V4R4 box, it would have worked as advertised in the V5 docs.
On the V4R2 box, however, it failed when run from a non-prived account.
I just stuck the getpwuid() call back into my test program, compiled it, stuck it on the V4R4 box, and linked and ran it. It worked fine from my privileged account, but the getpwuid() call returned NULL when run from an intentionally unprivileged account.
Fortunately, the other alternative still works fine. -- JHHL
