Hello, Please read this if you have applied the i5/OS time zone updates PTFs for the new US time zones. Those PTFs were V5R4M0 SI24908 or V5R3M0 SI24906. (This also applies to the earlier time zone updates V5R4M0 SI24717 or V5R3M0 SI24716.) IBM has discovered a problem when using Java with the PTF's that were put out for the time zone updates. In some cases after loading those PTF's you could receive the following error when starting Java. "QJVAMSGF/JVAB577 Message . . . . : Timezone could not be found. Defaulting to UTC." UTC time is defined based on the prime meridian (0° longitude). This Java setting would only be correct for systems based in cities that have a zero offset from UTC, for example London or Lisbon. If your system is not be in a city that has a zero offset from UTC this error will result in the Java time functions not being in sync with the system time functions. The PTFs SI24908 & SI24906 have been replaced with new PTF's that co-req the required Java update. Here are the new PTF numbers needed for this update. V5R4M0 SI26040 and SI25990 V5R3M0 SI26039 and SI25991 Please apply these PTFs to ensure you do not have problems with time functions in Java. Pat Pat Glenski IBM i5/OS Globalization Architect
