In the iSeries 400 world, spooled reports are fixed format. Our spooled reporta are up to 198 print positions wide, normally we use 132 wide, in a few cases dictated by PC printer width. If we don't populate a sideways space with characters, it is blank there. Similarly vertically the length in lines is dictated by the software. We use #s like 68 34 66, while industry standard is like 88. If the software is not populating some lines of a report, then the remainder of the fixed dimensions are blanks.

List,

Is there a built-in mechanism on the iSeries that will automatically "trim"
(or truncate) trailing blanks that are written to spooled reports? We are
migrating some applications from the VSE/mainframe world. At one time, this
was an issue that had to be addressed by its spooler. I was wondering if
anyone could enlighten me on what the iSeries will can and will do in these
cases. TIA
