We've replaced our old Best UPS that had an AS/400 cable with a new Powerware
9155 solution with backup. It's basically 3 separate units that run in
parallel and if one units stops functioning, the other two keep our Computer
Room up. These units have ConnectUPS-X cards in each of them which supports
SNMP. Unfortunately, we don't have additional slots for a relay card.
Besides, if the UPS with the relay card had a low battery but the other two
were fully powered, the iSeries would power down when it was not necessary.

Because of these reasons, we would prefer to use SNMP to schedule the iSeries
power down. I found an archived posting in another forum that someone created
their own software that receives the trap and decides what to do with it using
exit points, a data queue and a CL program. Unfortunately, I cannot post a
reply since the forum is closed and we have not funds available in this year's
budget (ends Sept. 30, 2006) to buy some expensive third party software
product. Is there anyone else who has created a solution in-house that they
are willing to share?
