As an aside, you might politely remind Accounting that while they are in the
business of keeping track of such things, you are in the business of making
applications.

One thought is to have two input fields .. one for DAYS REQUESTED, and
another for DAYS CANCELLED.  You can edit to make sure that the fields are
mutually exclusive.  You can also edit the cancelled field to make sure they
actually have hours requested on the date in question.

Another thought is to have an F key to pull up previously approved requests,
and provide the ability to cancel the request.  You may or may not want to
give the ability to modify requests; procedurally they may prefer delete and
re-request to modify.

You should be able to give Accounting screens or reports that show the
"debits and credits" regardless of what the user screens look like.
