IBM has CD Rom, that may be for free. There is education about what the 400 can do, how to do it, followed by some multiple choice Q+A, in which you have to get them all right before you have "passed" that class. At any time, you can exit, and not bother with "passing". You can do the "classes" in any sequence. Anyone in the enterprise can use the CD. I already had taken formal 400 education, but I found this to be great for newer versions of OS and boxes features added since my last formal education. The content is pretty much aimed at IT personnel, and the managers of IY, but I wish more managers exposed to this because of common misconceptions that it corrects.

Depending on the scale of your company operations, you may not need a computer operator. There are many IT duties on other platforms needing staffing that are extremely automated in the 400 world. For example, there is a job function of "Data Base Manager" in the Unix world, that is non-existent in the 400 world because the computer takes care of all that work.

List,

We are new to the iSeries world. We will be migrating from a VSE/ESA system
to i5. We've already migrated our database from DB2/VSE to UDB/iSeries. So
far - so good.

I would like to get some advice concerning the best way to train operators.

1) What is the best application to train operators to use that are new to
the iSeries?
iSeries Navigator?
WDSC?
traditional green-screen via TN5250?
All the above?

2) Are there any recommended classes for operators that are new to the
iSeries?

3) Is it better/more economical to bring someone in for the training?

4) Any other ideas or suggestions we should be aware of as we move forward
with the migration?
