You got it! at 5.3 depending PTF levels ECS uses a VPN connection to 
attach to IBM either via ASCII Dialup (PTP) or if using the lan/internet 
connection. If you have the latest and greatest it will now try HTTPS and 
finally ( i think ) plain old HTTP, but I don't remember for sure right 
now.

Also you may have noticed that by default the max size to download via 
'dialup' is now 100MB and Lan connections are *NOMAX when using SNDPTFORD

VPN on V5R3







Our VPN keeps getting started yet is not configured to auto start.  Is
this required for communications to IBM for service?  When the PTP
connection is started by the ECS does this start the VPN service server
on the system?
