From an old (S/34) geezer: 

The amount of space required by journaling would be
determined, as others have put it, on several factors such
as change frequency, size of receivers, what kind of info
are you recording etc.  Depending on how MIMIX works you
could journal only the *AFTER image of the record and not
need the record the OPEN/CLOSE journal entries. That would
be a big space saver.

There is a "Journal receiver Calculator" on the V5R3
Infocenter that is supposed to give you a rough estimate of
the size of the Receiver.

Also, if your shop is new to journaling, please be aware of
the effect of the OBJJRN parameter in the SAVxxx commands.
When we began journaling this was one that bite us a little
hard.

Thanks.  That's not very much.  I am hoping I drastically
overestimated. 
When you think about it, taking a WAG of 30% of all "User
Libraries" when 
that also includes program libraries, etc had better be a
large WAG.  :-)
Then again, how many of us that migrated from the S/36
could even dream of 
using the amount of disk that we are using nowadays?  (Oh
Christ, I hope I 
didn't open a huge geezer floodgate.)
